New Funding Available for Medi-Cal Providers
Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP) announced today that the Hub and Spoke (H&SS) State Opioid Response (SOR) III Request for Application (RFA) has been released. All Medi-Cal providers licensed to provide medication for opioid use disorder, also known as medication for addiction treatment (MAT) services, in California are invited to apply.
In this 45-minute webinar, AHP’s Kathleen West and Geoff Henderson provide an overview and instructions for applying for California’s Department of Healthcare Services (DHCS) SOR III H&SS funding opportunity. For-profit and nonprofit Medi-Cal providers licensed to provide medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) services are eligible to apply for this funding. All grant applications are due by November 30, 2022. The informational webinar is available online, along with the PPT slides.
The period of performance will be from January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. Successful applicants for the SOR III programming will demonstrate the capacity to include the following programming:
- Competent assessment, delivery, and monitoring of MAT to patients
- Incorporate state-certified Peer Recovery Support Specialists into MAT services delivery
- Harm reduction strategies and outreach
- Culturally appropriate and accessible services to meet the needs of diverse and marginalized communities affected by the ongoing opioid and stimulant epidemics in California, including telehealth
- Responsivity to value-based payment programming
- Incorporation of family members into case planning
- Administration of GPRA surveys
- Data collection and entry into an interactive H&SS database
- Data collection for the UCLA ISAP statewide evaluation
- Engagement with substance use navigators to improve care referral practices
- Capacity to interface with other hubs and spokes in the statewide H&SS System
The primary grant program goals are to:
- Improve access to MAT for marginalized populations.
- Improve MAT provider infrastructure, including appropriate telehealth services and expanded service hours, and
- Broaden the concept of the patient population from the individual to include the family to maximize recovery capital, support family resilience, and destigmatize treatment.
